Настройки mod_rewrite заставляют сервер выдавать ошибки HTTP 500 вместо 404

У меня есть сервер с форумом VBulletin (работает под Apache 2.2, CentOS). Настройки по умолчанию для него в.htaccess:

Если я пытаюсь получить доступ к любому несуществующему URL на форуме, например www.example.com/ajdsjaskasajs, сервер выдает ошибку HTTP 500.

Журнал Apache говорит:

Если я переключаю LogLevel на Debug, я получаю что-то вроде этого:

Если я удаляю или комментирую последнюю (#MVC) строку из.htaccess, все в порядке. Можете ли вы посоветовать мне, в чем проблема с настройками mod_rewrite?

Почему последняя строка вызывает бесконечную рекурсию?
